Dr. Abdul-Rahman A. Arkadan

An educator and a scientist, Dr. Arkadan is the President of the Hariri Canadian University since September 2004. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississippi in 1980, his Masters of Science from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia in 1981 and his Ph.D. from Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York in 1988, all in Electrical Engineering. During the period 1981-1984 he worked in industry. In 1988, he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as an Assistant Professor and was later promoted to Associate Professor and Full Professor in 1993 and 1998, respectively. He has many years of teaching, curriculum development and research, as well as industrial and consulting experience which includes the establishment and heading of the Technical Department in Saudi Oger Maintenance Division.
Dr. Arkadan is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE. His research interests are in the areas of Electronic and Electric Machine and Drive Systems, Computational Electromagnetics and Intelligent Systems Applications which include design optimization and synthesis of electromagnetic devices using artificial intelligence system techniques. He authored and co-authored more than 100 technical papers in the archival literature as well as in National and International Conference records. In addition, he authored book chapters, numerous technical and project reports. Dr Arkadan received several awards for excellence in research including an IEEE society award. He is also the recipient of the IEEE Power Engineering Society Award for chairing the First IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference, IEMDC, and the Award as the Chairman of the Technical Program Committee. Dr. Arkadan is active in several IEEE and other international societies. He served as the Chair of the International Steering Committee of the IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computations, CEFC, June 2002–May 2005. Also he served as a member International COMPUMAG Society Board, 1998–2001. In addition, Dr. Arkadan served and still serves as chairman, officer or as an active member on several IEEE society committees, sub-committees and technical working groups. He was the IEEE Milwaukee Section Chairman, 1992-1994. Also he serves or served on the Editorial Boards of several International Conferences including COMPUMAG, Intermag and CEFC and he organized and chaired sessions in major international conferences. In addition, Dr. Arkadan has extensive experience in organizing major international conferences. He was Conference Chairman of the First IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference, IEMDC, Milwaukee, WI, May 1997. He was also the General Chairman of the Second IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference, IEMDC, Seattle Washington, May 1999. In addition, Dr. Arkadan was the General Chairman for the IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computations, CEFC-2000, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, June 2000. Also, he is the future General Chair of CEFC 2010, to be held in Chicago, Illinois, USA, in May 2010.
