Student Bill of Rights

As an HCU student you are entitled to have your rights respected by other students, faculty, administrators, staff, and people associated with the university. Your rights as an HCU student include but are not restricted to the following:

  • The right to enjoy a healthy and safe learning environment free from harassment and discrimination. 
  • The right to benefit from student services and facilities available at HCU through proper procedures.
  • The right to communicate encountered problems with authorized people and to receive proper guidance and advice while maintaining confidentiality.
  • The right to access documents contained in your College records, and the ability to add pertinent comments or credentials as appropriate.
  • The right to be aware of information concerning University admission policy, academic regulations, and graduation requirements,
  • The right to have instructors who are professional and competent.
  • The right to receive at the beginning of a semester a written course outline containing the basic content and general procedures of a course and be assured that the information contained therein will not change substantially after registration.  The course outline includes instructional objectives, teaching methods, evaluation system, and due dates and penalties attuned for late major assignments.  Students should also be formally notified of any changes made to this course outline.
  • The right to be properly notified of class cancellation and the expectation that classes will start and end on time.
  • The right to get occasional feedback on your performance in any given course throughout the semester.
  • The right to review any of your examinations and major course assignments within a definite period that does not extend beyond the beginning of the following semester.
  • The right to retain academic property concerning your assignments, essays, thesis, and other written material.
  • The right to understand the reason for any penalty or probation.

It should be clear that students could seek redress for any potential infringement of their rights according to the procedures in effect at the university and only through appropriate committees.
